Types of Difficulty

| Hard | A hard mode where you cannot clear without strategic combat |
Story is Low Difficulty
Story difficulty is the lowest difficulty mode, making enemies easier to defeat while allowing your character to take more damage. It is recommended for players who want to focus more on the story and puzzle-solving.
Normal is Well-Balanced Difficulty
Normal difficulty is a well-balanced mode where you have to give equal focus to both the story and combat. While enjoying the story and solving puzzles, you'll also need to consider your ammunition count and enemy routes during combat.
Hard is High Difficulty with Stronger Enemies
Hard difficulty is where enemies become significantly stronger, while weapon power and health recovery rates decrease. Without strategic play, you may run out of ammunition or be caught off guard by enemy ambushes. If you want to focus on the story, it is recommended to clear the game on a different difficulty first before playing through it again on Hard.

Story Does Not Change
In Alan Wake 2, the story does not change depending on difficulty. If you want to prioritize the story, choose Story difficulty. If you want challenging gameplay, choose Normal or Hard.
Enemy Strength Differs
Enemy health and attack power differ depending on difficulty. If combat is difficult for you, choose Story; if you want to enjoy combat as well, choose Normal; if you want to struggle through it, choose Hard.
Weapon Power Differs
Weapon power differs depending on difficulty. At Story difficulty, weapon power is high and you are less likely to run out of ammunition, but at Hard difficulty, weapon power is low and you use more bullets, so you are more likely to run out of ammunition.
Health Recovery Rate Differs
The health recovery rate changes depending on difficulty. You can see the recovery amount from recovery items and when entering safe zones. At higher difficulties, you will need to progress with extra care in avoiding enemy attacks.
