How to Get Swords
You can get all the types of weapons from the blacksmith including the Sword. Bring enough Col and crafting materials to get the specific weapon you want. You can also get blueprints for weapons to craft during your adventures.
You can also check the stats of each weapon, including their Unique MODs. With this, you can select the weapon that fits your playstyle.

Sword as a Weapon
The sword is a flexible weapon where you can use different playstyles with. The player can choose a Slashing playstyle that focuses on parrying and anticipating the enemies' attacks, a combo playstyle where the focus will be with stronger and faster Light Attacks, a Sword Skill playstyle, or a mixture of any of those three.
The sword also has defensive capabilities with the shield which makes guarding against foes easier. It is also easier to attack opponents right after guarding with the shield since the weapon itself is not used for the guarding.
At its base capabilities, a sword has average strength and fairly fast attack speed, which lets the player get in more hits in a short period of time, even if the damage per hit isn't that high.
Ultimately, the sword can fit according to your desired gameplay just by adjusting the stats of your character as described below.
What Stats to Focus On
If you would like a playstyle where you do multiple sword combos, it would be worth it to invest into STR and AGI. The base stamina is usually enough for regular gameplay, but with more attacks, you might want to invest a bit in END or use an Ex-Mod that decreases stamina consumption.
A parry playstyle, on the other hand, would benefit from high DEX.
If you want to focus on Sword Skills, Mind should definitely be increased to gain more SP. It is also worth investing in STR to power up the Sword Skill damage or use a DEX-based weapon.
A more balanced approach will be putting in some stat points into all of the stats above, but it is more effective to use a playstyle you are more comfortable with instead to maximize the output of the weapon.
Sword Sword Skills Usage
There are 3 categories of Sword Sword Skills:
-
Single Blows
These Sword Skills typically do a single hit with large damage.
These skills include: Slanted Edge, Vertical Slash, Horizontal Slash, Rage Spike, Breakrift, Rage Impact
-
Multiple Hits
These moves typically have two or more attacks. Usually, the attacks get increasingly stronger with each sequential attack, either in base stat or attack percentage.
These skills include: Sharp Nail, Vertical Arc, Horizontal Arc, Horizontal Quad Slash
-
Distance-changing
These Sword Skills either help you close the gap between you and your foe or knock the foe backward or puts your character at a distance from them. These give you the advantage of either activating the skill from a distance or to get out of a situation. For the former, it helps when enemies put an AoE attack around them that makes it hard for you to get close.
These skills include: Rage Spike, Breakrift, Vertical Arc, Horizontal Arc
Each Sword Skill has its place and some might do better in the overworld than in boss fights. You might want to use distance-changing moves such as Horizontal Arc when dealing with a mob, or use something like Rage Spike when dealing with a troll as they can cast AoE damage around them.
Choose according to your play style.
Recommended skills to use in general: Rage Spike, Sharp Nail, Horizontal Arc, Horizontal Quad Slash
