How Long Is Onimusha: Way of the Sword?
The story alone takes roughly 20 hours, but plan for up to 33 if you're diving into side content like Chance Encounters and Mysteries of Kyoto. Going for the Platinum trophy takes considerably longer, since it requires a second playthrough on Carnage difficulty, bringing total playtime past 60 hours.

Point of No Return
The Clash at Rendaino is the point of no return. Once you start this Main Quest, you can't go back to free-roam Kyoto until after the credits roll. Finish any Chance Encounters, Mysteries of Kyoto, Lion Dog searches, and other collectibles before starting this mission.
Recommended Difficulty
It's ideal to stick with Story or Action mode for your first playthrough, since Carnage only unlocks once you've already beaten the game. It's a serious step up in difficulty, which is best saved for New Game+ once you've got the hang of enemy patterns.
Are there Side Quests in Onimusha: Way of the Sword?
Alongside the Main Story, Kyoto is full of optional side content, including 18 Chance Encounters and 8 Mysteries of Kyoto. Try to complete them for achievements and other rewards!

Fight the Demo's Secret Boss
Byakue is a secret boss that can only be unlocked by performing 10 Issen during the demo. A counter on the bottom left side of the screen tracks successful Issen executions. Reach 10 and complete the demo to unlock the Special Challenge in the main menu.
Reward for Completing the Demo
Completing the demo lets you acquire the Charm: Kubi Akari.
According to the official site, you cannot continue from your demo save data in the base game.
