In Search of the Right Sound Walkthrough
[1] Approach the Tavern Musician in the Kingdom of Huther
At the Tavern, you can listen to a violinist play a beautiful song. Talking to him, Elliot finds out that the violinist is having trouble with his sheet music.
As Elliot introduces himself as an adventurer, Nakatani gets the idea that Elliot must have met musicians before in his adventures. He asks Elliot to show the sheet music to others and ask for their input. Elliot accepts this new kind of request.
[2] Approach the Cellist in Littlehope Kingdom
There's a cellist at Littlehope Village's tavern that you can approach for help. When Elliot asks if he's a musician, the cellist plays a short tune on his cello.
Elliot asks him to take a look at the music sheet. The cellist adds some cello to it. He then plays his contribution to the song. He thanks you for giving you such invigorating music.
[3] Give Nakatani the Revised Score
Return to Nakatani at the Tavern in Huther to show him the updated piece. Luckily, he has his brother, who is a cellist nearby, so he can play the accompanying cello part.
Faie says it sounds totally different with just one more instrument. Nakatani's thrilled about this new part, but it's still missing a bit more.
[4] Converse with People at Weyzen, Kingdom of Magic
Right outside the Weyzen item shop is a merchant. Talk to him, and he'll mention he saw a musician in town, but he doesn't seem to be there at the moment.
As you enter town, right before the stairs heading up is a Well-Informed Woman. She says the musician is good, but too free-spirited. He's probably staring at his favorite waterfall right now.
[5] Head to Northern Westerea
This is a clue as to where the musician is. Head across the bridge to find the musician.
Talk to the Clarinetist, who's busy playing a tune. He loves playing near the waterfall, as the roar pairs well with a sprightly clarinet. It's simply perfect. Elliot approaches him and asks him to look at the sheet music. The Clarinetist agrees to, and adds a sprightly clarinet part. Then he plays it, leading Faie to praise it and call it exciting.
Elliot is excited to bring this back to Nakatani. The clarinetist, listening to the waterfall, is not able to fully understand him, and asks for a clarification. Elliot simply thanks him.
[6] Give Nakatani the Expanded Score
When you meet with Nakatani again, he'll coincidentally have his clarinetist brother with him. With these 3 instruments, they'll now play the Expanded Score. Faie is amazed at how it has become completely different, and Elliot can hardly believe it.
However, Nakatani believes it still needs a little more. So now Elliot and Faie have to adventure once more to look for a musician.
[7] Talk to the Dispirited Man in Hitoyori
This part of the quest requires you to have unlocked the Age of Budding, so if you haven't yet, wait until then.
At the southern part of Hitoyori, Elliot and Faie will discuss not having found any musicians in this new age. However, Nakatani's music sheet, although not complete yet, is already complex and deep. A nearby man overhears them, and laments that he is not worthy to be a musician. He lived to play music for others, but the accordion he built over the years was destroyed by beasts, and thus he no longer calls himself a musician. Hoping to help this dispirited man, Elliot decides to return to Nakatani.
[8] Return to Nakatani in the Kingdom of Huther
Return to Nakatani, and Elliot will explain the situation he encountered. Nakatani can relate, as he wouldn't know what to do if his instrument was destroyed. So he gives you a family heirloom, an Accordion from his ancestor, the original musician in the family.
Since everyone in the family plays their own instruments, it seems fitting a forlorn musician should have his own too.
[9] Return to the Musician in Hitoyori
Elliot gives the Accordion to the Musician, saying that he shared his story with others, and those others were moved to give it to him. The Village Musician is very grateful he can play for others again, and asks how he can repay this kindness. Elliot gives him the score to look over, and while the musician thinks it's great, he also thinks it needs an accordion part.
After he plays the part, Faie comments that it sounds heartwarming, and Elliot can't wait to hear the whole tune.
[10] Listen to Nakatani and his Family play the music
Nakatani thinks this melody is stirring, and his family proceeds to play the music as a whole. It's a beautiful piece that gains praise from Faie, but also from Nakatani. Nakatani says the music is finally finished, but there is one more thing. Nakatani asks Elliot for help on the finishing touch, by asking him which of the music was his favorite.
This is all up to your personal preference. Once you pick an instrument, Nakatani will ask if you think the piece should be lively or soothing. This too, is up to preference. Once you've chosen both, you'll be given the chance to back out, in case you wanted to try a different style.
As soon as you've decided, Nakatani and his family will play the song, based on your choices. Elliot is surprised at how it turned out, thinking music is very complex. Nakatani is excited to share this music with everyone, and encourages his brothers to keep playing. Once the song ends, you'll complete the quest!
