Do Thaumata Dream of Elder Trees? Walkthrough
[1] Meet with the Well-Dressed Nobleman
Enter this Manor in Weyzn.
Talk to the Noble inside of the house. As the caretaker of the fields formerly known as Eastern and Western Hucarea, and now the Eastern and Western Fields of Flon, he's had some troubles recently. He asks Elliot for help, and Elliot is happy to help if it's within his capabilities.
He wants Elliot to "shoo" away a certain person. A researcher. When the researcher arrives, it turns out to be Marnie! She wants to investigate how his Magin has lasted so long without being refilled by magic. The noble refuses to let her interact with it because she could damage it, and doubts the Formanit Institute could discover anything.
Marine refuses to back down, stating she's a skilled researcher. Elliot, as her friend, refuses to send her away. Instead, he volunteers to investigate it himself. The noble accepts this, and Marnie thanks Elliot for helping her.
[2] Head to the Eldertree
The closest guidepost to the Eldertree is at Eastern Eddartrayl. Cross the bridge back to the Eastern Fields of Flon to trigger a cutscene.
The Magin will be seen wandering around the fields.
Suddenly, a beast will attack it, but the Magin will easily defeat it in one strike.
Elliot and Faie will see it try to cross the bridge to the tree, but it will then stop, and return the other way. Elliot is curious as to what this means returns to town to complete his report.
[3] Return to the Noble
Return to the Manor so Elliot can make his report. Marnie will be curious as to why the Eldertree causes it to act like that and wishes she could examine it in her laboratory.
The nobleman says he does have a specialist coming in soon who could help. The specialist enters, and it turns out to be Hildebrant! Hildebrant is also intrigued and says he wants to investigate rather than offer a hypothesis. He tells Elliot to bring some grass around Eldertree. Marnie asks why that is, and Hilderbrant just brushes her off. Faie thinks that's rude, but Elliot trusts his knowledge of magic and leaves.
[4] Return to the Eldertree area
Return to the area around the Eldertree, and a cutscene will play that shows Elliot cutting some grass to take back.
[5] Return to the Manor again
Return to the Manor again. With just one look at the grass, Hildebrant understands why the Magin never needs to recharge. Marnie asks why, and Hildebrant tells her that the grass has magic energy in it from the soil. That must mean the Magin was fueled by the ground beneath him.
Marnie tells Elliot there is a magic well near the Eldertree. Hildebrant says it's most likely blocked, and that's why it's flowing to the ground. Marnie wants to stop the flow of magic being disrupted and volunteers to help Elliot find the cause of the blockage.
[6] Bomb the Rock near the grasslands
Return to the grasslands near the Eldertree and bomb the large rock.
Marnie will use Magicelite to lessen the flow of magic and make sure it returns to normal. With their job complete, Elliot and Marnie leave to return to the manor.
[7] Discover the truth behind the Magin
Return to the manor and speak with the noble and Hildebrant. Marnie will confirm that the ground will eventually return to normal and that they'll watch over the spring to prevent this from happening again.
When asked about the Magin's behavior, Hildebrant hypothesizes that a contradiction exists between wanting to protect the tree and destroying it because it's full of magic.
But Marnie believes instead that Magin wants to help the Eldertree, but it doesn't know how, so it hesitates. Marniee sees it as a friend, to which Hildebrant opposes.
The noble is pleased that Hildebrant discovered the truth behind the Magin. Marnie says it'll eventually run out of magic and asks if she can help with the maintenance. The noble agrees, saying he realized she only really wanted to help it. The noble then thanks Elliot, saying now he can preserve the fields of Flon better.
